Yearly, thousands of People, mostly from Peru & Bolivia, go in pilgrimage to the exact place close to Cusco, where Jesus Christ appeared in different occasions.
In the year 1675, something similar to the miracle appearance of Señor de Qoyllur Riti happened, in a somewhat different setting and context. In this year, Diego Quispe, a humble worker from the mines, after he had made a mistake in his work, saw himself forced to escape, knowing the harsh punishment that would be thrown upon him. He escaped after Sunset, to walk for hours, until he found a cave in which he could hide until the next night. He was very afraid to get caught by them, who were looking for him, and whose voices and footsteps he heard, in search for him. For Diego's fear had first turned into despair, and then into complete surrender and worship.
At a certain moment, he saw a clear light in the cave, and when he looked up, he immediately recognized Jesus Christ. He came in the image of completely beaten up in punishment, blood-dripping, but with a peaceful look in his eyes, extremely loving.
Jesus said: 'Diego, I have chosen this site, to found a volcano of Love, and a pool of regeneration and forgiveness … And I have chosen you, to be the messenger of what I represent. Go to your village and present yourself to the local priest. Do your first communion and return here, on that same day. I will be waiting for you.'
And so it came to be, when Diego came back from his village Chinchero on foot, together with his family, and the priest.
On the same spot in Huanca as the first time, just as Jesus had promised, He was there, and they all saw Him. Our source doesn't tell how this story really ends.
A beautiful history tells us of one of the registered miracle cases, occuring a 100 years afterwards, as far as in Cochabamba, Bolivia. A very rich man, Pedro Valero, was very ill. And even though he had much money, there was not one doctor who could help him cure. One day, a rumor reached his ears about a famous foreign doctor, visiting Cochabamba. He researched the rumor and came to know where to find this doctor, and had him called. The doctor said that his disease would be easy to cure, and so Pedro Valero was cured in 5 days, means a treatment with waters. Pedro, who was incredibly thankful, asked the doctor what his name was, and how he could pay him. The doctor responded:'My name is Emmanuel, and my service to you is free: but I would be very happy if you would come to visit me sometime, in my home in Huanca, close to Cusco in Peru. And so the grateful man did: he did not have a clue what he would find: Huanca was not as known as nowadays, and it took him a long search to find this place, which was not a village … but a forest. He was very persistent and went anyway. Imagine his huge surprise when he saw the rock, of which he had just heard, and immediately recognized in the image, the man who had saved his Life.
'Brothers' of Sr. de Huanca, who himself likes calm simplicity: Sr. de Qoyllur Riti (in Ocongate): said to somehow be the most powerful, and a fan of dancers and loud firework.
Less known, are Sr. de Pampacucho (in Sicuani), Sr. de Pampamarca (in Canas), and probably Sr. Del Mundo (San Sebastian), and another, in Bolivia, of which even His name is very unknown.
