The Lares trek is a little traveled but also very beautiful alternative to the classic Inca Trail, combining the best of Lares Valley and the impressive Urubamba mountain-range, with the fascinating Inca remains of Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu.
Each day is reasonably paced, with enough time to enjoy breathtaking landscapes, getting impressions Andean farmers' Life.

Lares trek day 1: Cusco – Lares - Cuncani

Lares trek: Cuncani, Peru
We will depart from Cusco in the early morning, in our private bus. Driving through the Sacred Valley, we’ll get to the Colonial town of Lares (3,100m).
Here, we will spend some time, taking a bath in the hot springs, and having lunch.
After this, accompanied by Mules and Lamas, who’ll carry all our packs, we will initiate our hike up the river, continuing for about 3 hours, until reaching the charming community of Cuncani (3,600m). Here will be our campsite.

Lares trek day 2: Cuncani – Quishuarani

Lares trek: Quishuarani, Peru
Early in the morning, we will soon be in front of Silver Cross’ snowy peak (5,700m). Continuing our trek, we will pass a collection of turquoise lakes,
and then continue to the first high pass at Uchuyccasa (4,000m). From this place, we will enjoy the nice views of the valley below us. Our trail will take us down to the village of Quishuarani (3,700m), where we will spend the night.

Lares trek day 3: Quishuarani - Cancha Cancha

Lares trek: Cancha-Cancha, Peru
Today, we will begin with a short walk to an impressive lake. There, we will also see the falls of Pausi. Our trail leads up to the right, passing many small waterfalls, and following an original stone Inca-path. As we reach the Pachakuti pass (4,500m), we will have spectacular views of the snow-covered peaks
of Apus Pitusiray (5,750m) and Chicón. Down below, we can also see the
striking Suirococha-lake, located next to the village of Cancha Cancha (3,800m), our last campsite.

Lares trek day 4: Kancha Kancha - Ollantaytambo

Lares trek: Ollantaytambo, Peru
This will be our last difficult hiking-day,
as we’ll continue descending from the village of Kancha Kancha,
passing local houses and pastoral farmland.
As we will head into the warm valley,
we will follow the mountain streams through a wide corridor
filled with bird-life and rocky formations.
The trail comes out at Sayhuapata (2,800m), close to Huaran.
From there, our private transport will take us to Ollantaytambo,
the legendary Inca-town.
In the afternoon, we will have plenty of time to visit this arqueological site.
This night, we will sleep comfortably in a hostel, with great views onto the Inca-ruins.

Lares trek: Machu Picchu, Peru
Today, we will take the early-morning train to Aguas Calientes, the small town, just below the lost city of the Inca, 7th World woder Machu Picchu. There, we will take the tourist-bus up to this famous arqueological complex, arriving there around 11:30.
An official English-speaking guide will lead the tour of approximately 2 hours, followed by free time, to explore the remains on our own. In the afternoon, we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where we’ll take the train back to Cusco.

Great extra: Wayna Picchu / Huayna Picchu

Wayna Picchu view on Machu Picchu, Peru
Wayna Picchu is a section / mountain inside the site of Machu Picchu, from which one has spectacular views over Machu Picchu and its valley, and whereunder you can also visit the Temple of Pachamama. The climb is steep & quite intense, and takes most People about 1 hour.
For security-reasons, only 400 People per day are allowed
to climb Wayna Picchu, in 2 groups of 200.
Group 1 leaves at 7:00 - 8:00 (we recommend this group)
Group 2 leaves at 10:00 - 11:00
Reservations Wayna Picchu
Reservation goes in advance (just mark on our booking-form),
together with your reservation for the Inca Trail and / or visit to the site of Machu Picchu.
